The Corner Gallery
263 Hay Street, Subiaco, 6008, Perth, Western Australia
Founder/Director
On the fringe of a wealthy , leafy suburb lay a dormant warehouse that was soon to become an institution for the arts in Perth.
Built in the 1970’s to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs and later housing a flower shop, the site was set for redevelopment which after a slight change of plan and a handshake lease for one month, a small crew of skateboarders, artists & musicians got their hands on the key for one month to hold a group exhibition in April of 2013.
With 500 humans over capacity that night, The Corner Gallery was born and that handshake lease lasted nine years.
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard (AU) was the first band on our stage (the cold, hard, concrete with no PA system at the time), the first of many legendary moments under our roof for years to come.
The Corner Gallery hosted hundreds of solo & group exhibitions, gigs, workshops, creative talks, launches, events and raised tens of thousands of dollars to donate to charities and emergency relief funds around the world.
A home for the underground and the above ground.
